Teaching and collaborating with undergraduate students is one of the joys of working at Pomona College. I teach a survey of Latin American and Latinx art, as well as seminars on Latin American avant-gardes and the U.S.-Mexico border. I also teach a first-year writing seminar called "Southern California Murals" that introduces students to the diverse art history, culture, and geography of greater Los Angeles. I frequently lead field trips to museums and mural sites, and I regularly take students to research in the permanent collection and archive of the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona. My students have co-authored publications and done research and curatorial work in projects that I am involved in, and a team of students working with me curated an exhibition at the Benton called CrossBorder Photography.
